Well, as zice ca nu neaparat sa te faca sa razi, but to make you stick around, sa mai stai un pic, sa vrei sa vezi mai mult.

Site-ul omului e aici.

Din perspectiva mea, cea de potential client al unei agentii de digital marketing, m-as astepta sa vad in primul ecran:

-o pozitionare mai altfel. Pe servicii, pe industrii, pe performance, pe content, pe video etc
-un ‘call to action’ – daca nu e posibil sa fie in primul ecran, macar sa fie relevant

C = Clear Call to Action
O = Offer
N = Narrow Focus
V = VIA: Very Important Attributes
E = Effective Headline
R = Resolution-Savvy Layout
T = Tidy Visuals
S = Social Proof

Spor acolo!

fiecare om are povestea lui

fiecare om are povestea lui

Fiecare dintre noi a trecut printr-o suferinta, […]

4 months in london

4 months in london

It’s 4 months since I moved to London. 4 months from which I learned so much and I wasn’t expecting this to happen. Even though until beginning of April I focused on  my master dissertation, a time where I stayed more days at home, and […]

The Social Animal – 2 lives like one of yours

The Social Animal – 2 lives like one of yours

I started reading The Social Animal (author David Brooks) long time ago with a ‘meh’ attitude (attitude which can be translated into – I read this book only because I don’t want to think anymore about writing my dissertation).
The book tells the story of Erica and Harold two Americans that meet and start a family. She is a hard-working somehow ‘corporatist-style person and he’s a writer.

The story watched them from their adolescence to all stages of their life. With ups and downs. Victories and failures. Sad and happy moments. But what David Brooks does to make The Social Animal a pleasant lecture is the insertion of studies (from science, politics, socials, psychology etc) related to different punctual moments from the lives of Erica and Harlod.

One of my favorite parts is at the beginning of the book, when Erica finds herself caught in the middle of her family differences. She has Mexican and Asian grandparents and each of them are trying to impose their point of view regarding Erica’s college.
I liked also the final (which one do you think dies first – Erica or Harold?) but I won’t say more about it.
The Social Animal comes with passages like these ones:
Words are the fuel of courtship. Other species win their mate through a series if escalating dances, but humans use conversation. Geoffrey miller notes that most adults have a vocabulary of about sixty thousand words. To build that vocabulary, children must learn ten to twenty words a day between the ages of eighteen months and eighteen years. And yet the most frequent one hundred words account for 60 percent of all conversations.

It’s important to fail productively. First, you should seek out new ideas and new projects, Then you should try new things on a small scale so that their failure is survivable. You should make sure each of your projects is insulated from the others so the failure of one doesn’t pull down the whole lot. Then you have to find a feedback mechanism so you can tell which new thing is failing and which is succeeding. Fight your natural tendency to loss aversion and kill the failing projects.

Bonus: at the end of the book, David Brooks puts a list of references to all the articles and studies mentioned in The Social Animal.

The London attitude

first month and a half in london

first month and a half in london

It’s a month and a half since I moved to this crazy-flamboyant-lovable city called London. I must admit, I fell in love with it at the end of last year, when I took my first trip here to meet my beloved one. Of course all the Christmas decorations mesmerized me at that moment, but I was sure that the vibe of London doesn’t disappear after the winter holidays.

So, here I am – as a Brian Adam’s song says. Here I am wandering on the streets of London as more than a visitor. I am now a person of this city. One that has already started some small work here (one that I wasn’t actually looking for, but it simply happened).

And here are my first thoughts about London:
-the clouds are closer to my balcony. I stare, and I stare at this sky and the moon… it gives you a feeling of being closer to the universe…
-the fuzziness has its benefits. Like when you have a bad day and you can simply get lost in the crowd. And you can find the crowd very, very easy…
-British people? Haha, keep looking for them. It’s hard to find them. You’ll find Russians, Romanians, Italians, polish people, Brazilians etc, etc, etc.
-food? OMG! I could buy for a whole year and not get tired of trying new stuff.
-long live amazon for ordering anything. On time (sometimes even faster)
-work? You can find it. You just have to be focused. Extremely focused.
-PARKs! Every park has its uniqueness. Just go and see for yourself. It brings peace to your mind, your soul. The parks are my favorite places, probably everywhere. But here, in London, the parks are amazing. Calm, vibrant, although very, very alive!

For now on I will try to write more in English, only because I need it. I will not forget my mother language. I keep speaking Romanian every day, but I feel it will help me improve my second language, mainly because I needed for my work.

Love,
C
